A Message to Our Guests

Safety continues to be the new luxury.  Our strict compliance to the safety protocols provided to us by AVEDA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and local health care professionals has allowed AKYA to experience zero COVID-19 exposures since the beginning of the pandemic.  To keep all safe, our latest protocol was getting vaccinated.  Kelvon and I are now fully vaccinated!  This enables us to ease the number of safety protocols necessary to continue to keep everyone safe.  If you have not been fully vaccinated, please consider doing so for the health and well being of yourself and our community.

Many thanks for your continued adaptability and patience during this unusual COVID-19 year.  Now guests may receive most of our salon services.  A mask is required for all guests during their visit.  We will also wear masks.  Hand sanitizer remains available.   We can now shampoo, blow dry, and style hair.  Unless you prefer Express Hair Color, your color will be professionally applied, fully processed, shampooed out and styled here at the salon.  Beard trims, make-up applications, and eyebrow arches are on hold again.  We have three ways to purchase products.  You may pick them up along with your service, drop by during regular salon hours at your convenience, or schedule for curbside pick-up.  If a loved one comes with you to your appointment, they may accompany you inside the salon.

When you arrive, you may enter the salon upon your arrival, no need to wait in your vehicle.

For non-vaccinated guests, the CDC is still recommending continued masks, social distancing, and hand washing.  Please wear a mask.

AKYA Cares


Kelvon and I have been thinking again.  When we moved the salon to 125 Moore Street and wanted a new name, we wanted a name that meant something.  The word AKYA means "an outward expression of Inner Light".  All of us possess that inner "something" that makes us special, beautiful, lovely, strong…………… We recognize, expressing this "something" heals our World.  Our name has always meant that.

Recently, our salon rituals are different.  Our care for you still shows up with helping you select the perfect shade of lipstick, soothing aftershave, the cut that frames your face the best, or the conditioner that is right for your hair right now.  We now also take your temperature and sanitize your hands.  Products are hand delivered to you in your car.  We all have learned to smile with our eyes because we can't see each other's smiles.  At the end of your time with us we have learned to hug with our words, like "thank you for coming."

We decided we wanted to add just one more small ritual to your experience.  Since your Inner Light always gets brighter and clearer upon leaving, we wonder if you could light a candle here.  This candle expresses your recognition of your own beauty and strength, and it is a beacon to the next person who arrives.  That next person is appreciated by you and held in a safe glow.

Yes, we'll care for you by taking temperatures and sanitizing hands.  We'll all keep smiling with our eyes and hugging with our words.  We'll all recognize our own beauty,  and we'll continue to hold our community in a lovely expanding light.  And this heals our World.

WELCOME TO OUR GUESTS
Dear Guests:

​We want to share with you some of the adjustments that we’ve had to make to our salon operations.  This is out of an abundance of caution for our staff, our guests and our community.  We’ve made many internal changes to our salon procedures but we wanted to share the ones that will affect you at your visit. Please come alone to your appointment.  We will not accommodate extra family members, children or friends.  If they come with you, they will need to wait outside.  No handshakes or hugs for us at this time either please!  All guests will be required to wear a mask that hooks behind the ears (all staff members will be required to wear masks as well).  We will do our best to apply your hair color without getting it on your mask.  It would be best to use a disposable mask if you are concerned with hair color stains.  When you arrive to the salon, park your vehicle in the parking lot.  Remain in your vehicle and "Check-In" for your appointment or message us using our app, POCKET SALON to let us know you've arrived.  We will step outside and invite you to come in.  This will eliminate extra people in the salon at one time and allow us to clean the styling station.  When you come in, we'll ask that you use hand sanitizer.  Upon entering the salon, you’ll go right to the styling chair with the stylist.  We will NOT be having you change into color robes.  Please don't wear anything precious to you.  We will be using disposable capes for hair coloring  and styling capes as usual for haircuts (which are always washed in between uses).  We will not be offering beverages at this time, please no outside beverages or food.  At the end of your service, we will recommend AVEDA products for your home use and begin the checkout process in the styling chair.  We will total your service, and your home care AVEDA products (we will gather them for you and bag them up).  Using POCKET SALON, we will assist you with checking out using your phone.  This is our preferred method of checking out because it doesn't require shared contact.  As an alternate method, we will check you out using the credit card machine.  You will not need to use the signature pad or stop at the front desk.  Please know how very important providing excellent service is to us.  We will continue these measures until it is not necessary.  We sincerely appreciate your support.  This situation has certainly brought on some challenges, but we are determined to rise to the occasion with a positive attitude and high level of professionalism.  As these circumstances are ever changing, they will require our constant attention and reevaluation.  We ask that you please be patient with us as we make the necessary adjustments.
